Most days I wake up early.
Throw on my sneakers and I run to the store to buy a pack of
ciagrettes.
On the way I see Jim strumming his guitar,
Hoping passerbys will throw him a few cents.
So we try real hard to make of it what we can do.
Jim's got: a nice smile, and a few good tunes for you.
He'll be playing there every morning till he's through....
But, the end is nowhere in this city.

I wave to Jim and I drag the Camel Light
...is green, cross the street, avoid distractions in-between
Old Katie still sics her two big dogs on little kids
Who get a bit too close for their own good... And then...
Katie goes inside and calls her own -
she hasn't seen them since they left her all alone
She'll be calling them in every morning's dial tone,
But,
The end is nowhere in this city.

So you can leave or you can go now.
You can pack your bags and hit the country road now

I've heard the answers, I've heard you prayers
I've seen everything you need
To get from here to there.
But there's no magic cure, no panacea to spread around;
Just ask Jim, or guys like him in town
